Codie Robot – A Toy Robot That Teaches Kids The Concepts Of Coding

Hungarian university students developed the Codie, a toy robot, in February 2013. In March 2015 launched a campaign to Community funding to initiate production as well. Codie Robot is hoping to change the way people around the world view modern technology.

The Codie Robot will help the parents or teachers that would like to teach their children the concepts of coding in a fun and entertaining way.

Kids especially grow curious of what they see in smartphones and other handheld devices, and they wonder how it is made. How the apps they play in are made, how the toys they see on YouTube videos are made, how drones and robots are made.

For all of those curiosities, Adam Lipecz and Andras Hollo(Codie’s co-founders) has brought us Codie Robot, the first robot toy that teaches kids the principles of coding in a fun and interactive way.

Codie robot is handmade, with warm wood and hard hitting technology, stuffed with the most advanced equipment available. The Codie robot has two treads that allow to easily traverse flat surfaces, and custom internals that include proximity sensors, a microphone and line follower.

Codie has been created to interact with a companion smartphone application and uses a brand new programming language that has been designed by its developers to simplify the abstract patterns of coding into blocks.

In practice, Codie progressively teaches several concepts, from task execution sequences to variables, programming loops, and conditionals. All of this is done through the app, which is connected to the Codie robot via Bluetooth.

Codie Uses a building blocks system to teach Programming Concepts. The blocks are connected with the arrows and show the order of execution. Codie can be controlled either through the programs a child writes in the app or through a manual interface that includes an on-screen joystick that you can use to direct its movements.

There is an LED light on the top of the Codie, which can be easily customized to display different colors, using the mobile application.

The Codie robot will follow all movement that it’s commanded, and codie will save the code input by their users for future use or to elaborate on later. Codie is a creative robot that accompanies you through your learning process. There is the accelerometer, gyroscope, and sensors through which, kids can get instantaneous feedback by watching its moves.
