There are many social networks to choose from, it’s up to you how you utilize them. As all these have positive and negative impacts. Since the launch of WhatsApp, we’ve found that people spend a lot of their time on it after facebook. Social media has been ingrained into our society to such extent that people start making fun of you if you’re not on any social media. This also establishes a bridge between people and communication gap that results in Loneliness, depression etc.

Now, here we’ve got good news- The study and research found that text-based messaging app WhatsApp, which offers users group chat functions, has a positive impact on psychological health. This study, published in the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies.

Moreover, the study named “Psychosocial Outcomes Associated with Engagement with Online Chat Systems“. It clearly states that the engagement on WhatsApp per day results in good health, as they are more connected with their friends and family.

Linda Kaye, Professor at Edge Hill University said “We’ve heard a lot whether spending time on social media is bad or good for our well-being but we’ve found it might not be as bad as we think. The engagement of people on WhatsApp can make the bond close and strong to their friends and family.”

The study also claims that among the various social media platforms WhatsApp users were less lonely.

In order to execute the research, the team has picked 200 users, 158 women and 42 men with an average age of 24, and note their average daily time spent on WhatsApp, which was around 55 minutes.

“It gives rise to the notion that social technology such as WhatsApp may stimulate existing relationships and opportunities for communication, thereby enhancing aspects of the users’ positive well-being,” Kaye said.
