Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC has been boasted as one of the powerful chipsets waiting to be released.

Chinese analyst Pan Juitang has made the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 seem even more promising in his new report. He claims that Snapdragon 820 is going to be a massive upgrade compared to current generation flagship processors.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is 50% faster than Samsung’s own Exynos 7420, the chipset that’s been at the heart of this year’s premium Galaxy devices. Reportedly, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is up to 50% more powerful in single thread performance, which sounds very promising considering most Android apps do not prioritise multi-threading.

Many are also wondering why Qualcomm opted to throw in massive performance upgrade on the Snapdragon 820 when the Snapdragon 810 is already powerful enough. Qualcomm has yet to address the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 810 and the rest of the tech community is hoping that this will not happen with the upcoming Snapdragon 820.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 features a 14nm FinFET process to manufacture the Snapdragon 820 chip, a new Adreno 530 graphics processing unit(GPU), a Hexagon 680 digital signal processor(DSP), Qualcomm Spectra camera ISP, Quick Charge 3.0, Smart Protect.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 provides support for dual-channel LPDDR4 memory support with a speed of up to 1866MHz. Additionally, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will also provide support for a 28MP camera sensor. However, perhaps the biggest difference between the previous generation chips is that Snapdragon 820 will be able to generate enough firepower to allow users to record 4K videos at a steady 60 frames per second, and that is twice the framerate that current devices are able to capture.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will come with an improved Kryo CPU. Kryo is being manufactured on the latest 14nm FinFET technology and is designed to reach speeds up to 2.2 GHz. With Kryo CPU and Snapdragon 820, you can expect up to 2 times the performance and up to 2 times the power efficiency when compared with the Snapdragon 810 processor.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will feature an improved  LTE/WiFi connectivity technologies, made possible by an integrated, and newly upgraded, X12 LTE modem which support with data speeds up to 600 Mbps downlink.

The release date for devices is expected around the first half of 2016. Qualcomm and Samsung have not confirmed the details related to the upcoming chipsets.
