Type 1 diabetes is always treated with insulin. Meal planning also helps with keeping blood sugar at the right levels.

What is type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body can’t properly use the insulin that is released (called insulin insensitivity) or does not make enough insulin. As a result, sugar builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy. About 90 percent of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes more often develops in adults, but children can be affected.

Depending on the severity of type 2 diabetes, it may be managed through physical activity and meal planning, or may also require medications and/or insulin to control blood sugar more effectively.

According to the Reports, “Around 50 million people in India suffered from Type 2 diabetes and that number is rising every year.

Vivekanand Jha, Professor and Executive Director of The George Institute for Global Health, said in a statement, “The app will assist people living in rural areas to access timely, affordable and guideline-based healthcare in the community, reduce the risk of developing life-threatening complications and ultimately save lives”.

“Digital technology coupled with using the experience and knowledge of local health workers. This is innovation at its best,” he added.

The Low income, lack of education and other health problems push Rural people likely to develop diabetes. An estimated 25 million people have diabetes in rural India and the number is rising rapidly, the statement said.

Researchers said, “This move will also serve an example to other countries struggling with the growing cost of providing essential healthcare to their citizens.”
