The New $10 Raspberry Pi Zero W computer comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

The Raspberry Pi turned five on Tuesday and the Foundation has given us all a present: a new Raspberry Pi Zero W model with Wi-Fi LAN and Bluetooth. The newest member of the Raspberry Pi product line costs just $10 plus tax.

The “Raspberry Pi Zero W” is an updated version of the Raspberry Pi Zero. While it lacks some niceties, like Ethernet and full-sized USB-A ports, it’s smaller than the flagship Pi and a fraction of the cost. The original Raspberry Pi Zero was released in November 2015 at a price of just $5. That small sum bought you a 65mm x 30mm x 5mm package containing a Broadcom BCM2835 processor, 512MB RAM, an HDMI connector, SD card slot, two Micro USB ports and the same GPIO pinout as Raspberry Pi 2. But no networking.

The new Raspberry Pi Zero W is almost identical to the original, but doubles the price to $10 and adds a wireless chip that supports 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (2.4GHz-only) and Bluetooth 4.0.

Full feature list for new Raspberry Pi Zero W:

  • 1GHz, single-core CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • Mini-HDMI port
  • Micro-USB On-The-Go port
  • Micro-USB power
  • HAT-compatible 40-pin header
  • Composite video and reset headers
  • CSI camera connector
  • 802.11n wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth 4.0
