MIUI 7 will start rolling out to supported devices on Oct 27
Xiaomi unveiled the MIUI 7 custom ROM in India. It was announced in India this August and the company has been beta testing it with select handsets. Compatible smartphones include Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 3, Mi 4,Mi 4i, Redmi Note, and Redmi Note 4G.
“We are really excited to announce MIUI 7 global stable build for MIUI fans all around the world. With two months of testing and optimization, MIUI 7 global stable version is to roll out from Oct. 27, 2015. Yours by design! Get ready for upgrade!,” said the MIUI blog post on Wednesday.
The update will start seeding as an OTA on October 27 to supported devices. Those who can not wait, they can manually download and install the ROM package from the company’s page. This includes both a China and a Global build, the latter naturally complete with Google services and apps.
The MIUI 7 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with several improvements such as new themes and performance enhancements. The MIUI 7 include four default themes- Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze, and High Life. One of the highlight is the ability to record a short video loop that can replace your contact photo using the feature called Showtime.
The MIUI 7 integration with Mi Band has been improved and will now switch the Mi phone to Do Not Disturb (DND) mode when it detects that the user is asleep. The MIUI 7 will support 10 Indian languages.
In terms of battery, one can expect restricted GPS and background data usage. It also reduces power usage of the cellular modem and offers 10 percent improvement in battery life. You will also find features such as Mute notifications and Opera Max data Saver. A new Smart SMS Filter has been also added to MIUI 7 which is said to intelligently filter service messages into a separate notification tab, and lastly, a Quick OTP feature has been integrated that is built-in and helps in entry of the OTP codes during online and mobile transactions.
