Yesterday, Huawei Mate 9, the company’s new giant premium smartphone with a Leica dual-rear camera, has been officially launched at an event in Munich. Huawei Mate 9 was aggressively rumoured since past two weeks with Huawei itself releasing teasers showcasing what Huawei Mate 9 will be capable off. The device will be first available in China and Europe followed by the US Market. The Huawei Mate 9 comes with a price tag of Eur 699, which is around Rs 51,000 on conversion.

The highlight of the Huawei Mate 9 is the new artificial intelligence feature which will learn the daily habits of the user. Huawei also launched a new fitness tracker.

Jumping straight into the specifications, Huawei Mate 9 comes with a huge 5.9-inch FHD display with 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution and 373ppi. The colour saturation(NTSC) is 96 percent with a high contrast of 1500:1.

The entire device is made out of metal and the fingerprint scanner lies at the back as it was rumoured. The Huawei Mate 9 is powered by a 2.4 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 960 processor with Mali-G71 MP8 GPU for graphics and gaming. It has a 4GB of RAM.

The device comes with 64 GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB irrespective of whether it is a Dual SIM device or not. In other words, if it’s a Single SIM device then it will come with a dedicated microSD card otherwise a hybrid Dual SIM slot. Huawei Mate 9 runs Android 7.0 with the company’s EMUI 5.0 on top.

Coming to the camera, Huawei boasted quite a bit about the new Leica partnered sensor or sensors on the Mate 9. As rumoured , the Huawei Mate 9 comes with dual-camera set up one being a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and the other one being a 20-megapixel Monochrome sensor with f/2.2 aperture, OIS, 2x zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) Flash. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/1.9 aperture and 1080p video recording capabilities.

Dimensions of the Mate 9 are 156.9 x 78.9 x 7.9mm and it weighs 190g. The smartphone will come Space Gray, Silver, Gold, Brown and Ceramic White colour options.

On the battery front, it has USB Type-C charger and a 4000mAh non-removable battery, which Huawei says can last two days with heavy usage, and will charge fully in just 90 minutes.

Alongside the Huawei Mate 9, Huawei also launched the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9, with an EUR 1,395 (roughly Rs. 1,03,000) price tag. The limited edition, a designer smartphone will only be launched in a Graphite Black colour variant, and go on sale in late December via European Porsche Design Stores. It will also be available in January from Porsche Design Stores worldwide (except the USA), and select Huawei retail stores in Asia, Middle East, and Europe.

The Porsche Design variant shares a lot of internals with the regular Mate 9 except that it comes with a 5.5 inch Quad HD AMOLED display which is curved around the edges. Due to the smaller display, Huawei managed to put a Home button on the front which doubles up as the fingerprint reader. The Porsche Design comes with a whopping 6GB RAM.
