Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the dates for Google I/O 2016, the company’s annual developer event, will be held on May 18 to May 20, 2016, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.

Sundar Pichai posted more details about the Google I/O 2016 event on his Google+ page.

The company typically utilises the event to release the new version of Android OS, which will most likely be Android N, going by the nomenclature. During a recent India visit, Sundar Pichai hinted in an interaction with students at Sri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi, that Android N could have the name of an Indian sweet.

In Google I/O 2015, we saw the launch the Android M OS, which later became known as version 6.0 or Marshmallow, Android Pay and the introduction of the Nexus Imprint, Google’s own take of the fingerprint sensor housed in a smartphone, alongside myriad other announcements that affect the consumers directly.

It will be interesting to see if Google reveals any major update to Chrome OS, which will supposedly bring some Android features.

Other than Android, I/O is also where tech giant showcases its upcoming products such as Project Ara (the modular smartphone), Project Tango, Project Jacquard and more.
