Apple iPhone 8 to include wireless charging and facial recognition: Report
According to the new rumor, the Apple iPhone 8 is expected to feature a never-before-seen all-screen design, the wraparound display is supposed to embed the fingerprint sensor and maybe even other front-facing components, and wireless charging support is finally coming.
The new rumor for Apple iPhone 8 wireless charging technology report comes from Digitimes, which quotes China’s Commercial Times. Lite-On Semiconductor is the Taiwan-based company who’s reportedly going to provide GPP bridge rectifiers that will support fast wireless charging.
The company has apparently received half of the orders for these components, though it’s not clear which companies got the rest. The report does not say anything about the actual wireless charging technology that the Apple iPhone 8 is supposed to support.
The wireless charging rumors for the iPhone 8 have so far gone hand-in-hand with those speaking about the device having a glass back, which makes perfect sense since no one’s solved the wireless charging through metal problem yet.
Apple iPhone 8 might just get some form of facial recognition technology, according to an investor note shared by financial services firm Cowen and Company. The note was shared with investors and Business Insider has published details from the same.
The note by analyst Timothy Arcuri says Apple will introduce facial recognition which will be powered by a new infrared sensor on the front camera, and the report is based on supply chain sources. The investor note also says three iPhone models are coming in September in 2017, which is in line with what other analysts and leaks are saying.
Previous reports suggest that Apple iPhone 8 is internally codenamed, Apple X. The Apple iPhone 8 is supposed to sport a bezel-less design, according to reports, although it is not clear if Apple will introduce OLED on all three versions or just keep it for the bigger 5.8-inch version of the phone.
Rumors are circulating that Apple will release three models of the iPhone next year – Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
