Android Nougat 7.1.2 Beta Version Released for Google Pixel and Nexus Devices

The search engine giant Google on Monday released the public beta of the Android Nougat 7.1.2 update, an update to its latest version of Android that should become available to everyone in the coming weeks. The company is also rolling out the beta to eligible devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program. Dave Burke, VP of Engineering at Google, in a blog post said Android Nougat 7.1.2 is an incremental maintenance release focused on refinements. It includes several bugfixes, optimisations as well as a few enhancements for users.

The latest Android Nougat 7.1.2 update will be initially available to Google Pixel and Pixel XL, which were launched with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box. Other devices include Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C devices. Dave Burke said the company is also preparing an update for Huawei-made Nexus 6P that will be released soon. Google is expected to roll out the final release of the Android Nougat 7.1.2 in a couple of months.

“Android 7.1.2 is an incremental maintenance release focused on refinements, so it includes a number of bug fixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for carriers and users,” Burke wrote.

If you qualify for the update, you should receive it in the next few days if you don’t already have it, Burke wrote.

Google says eligible devices that have already been enrolled should start receiving the Android Nougat 7.1.2 public beta in the next few days via over-the-air updates. Alternatively, users with eligible devices can also download and flash the factory images or OTA update files manually.

The blog post leaves out Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet from the list of eligible devices, which means they will not receive the Android Nougat 7.1.2 update. The devices were released in 2014 and supported beta program until Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Google has confirmed to Droid Life Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 won’t receive major updates in the future. However, they’ll still get security patches for about a year.
