Intel’s RealSense Project Tango phone is on pre-order for $399 in U.S.

Intel’s project tango phone, which was revealed in late 2015, is available for pre-order. Intel launched a pre-order campaign for its Android-powered phone on its online store for $399. The smartphone integrates an Intel RealSense 3D camera and can recognise objects and detect motion and gestures.

Project Tango is Google’s technology to help mobile devices like tablets, smartphones figure out space and motion just like humans do and brings spatial perception to Android devices. Google had earlier launched Project Tango Development Kits to help developers create apps to use this technology.

The $399 Intel’s Project Tango phone comes with a rear-facing RealSense 3D ZR300 camera that is much smaller and more advanced than those seen in Intel-powered PCs and tablets. The RealSense camera is capable of capturing 10 million points per second. Additionally, the phone features a 2-megapixel front camera and a 8-megapixel rear camera.

The Intel’s RealSense Project Tango phone is powered by the Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor, a 6-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution display and is powered by Intel Gen 8 graphics, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and an HDMI port. The Intel’s RealSense Android-powered phone will ship with 64GB of built-in storage and 2GB of memory.

Intel says – “The depth camera  captures high-quality, dense depth data for 3D scanning of people, objects and scenes along with robust pose estimation.  This information can be used for 3D rendering of people/objects and depth mapping for environments.  The feature tracking camera, high-precision IMU and rigorous software standards for synchronization between sensors (via time-stamping of data) enables Google Project Tango capabilities such as indoor navigation and area learning.”
