Google Nexus 2016 – HTC Sailfish appears on benchmarking websites, specs revealed
The Google Nexus 2016 – HTC Sailfish is out and about again, this time, it stopped over at AnTuTu. The smaller of the two upcoming Nexus phones confirmed the specs we saw from its time at GFXBench.
A source “close” to HTC’s Nexus project expanded on Sailfish in late June, sparking claims that the 5in smartphone will replace the similarly sized LG Nexus 5X in Google’s 2016 line-up. The specs listed in that report have been further substantiated by an AnTuTu benchmark result leaked by reliable smartphone tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer.
Google is expected to unveil two Nexus devices this time around as well. The smaller of the two reportedly codenamed Sailfish, has now been spotted on benchmarking websites, AnTuTu and Geekbench.
Tests on both websites show the phone might feature 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. According to the leak, the phone is running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.1 GHz, and Adreno 530 chipset. HTC is reportedly working on two new Nexus projects code named Marlin and Starfish, with both devices running Android 7.0 Nougat. A Weibo user posted a screenshot of the phone’s AnTuTu listing, and as per the image, it sports a Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC.
The 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera, and 1920X1080 pixel Full HD display listings also tally with previous reports, with only the 3450mAh battery, and USB-C support “unconfirmed” by the readout.
Google is expected to launch the new smartphones in September-October time frame. While Google CEO Sundar Pichai has said in the past they will continue working with OEMs, he has hinted they could still do more software customizations with Android on Nexus, and there were speculations that these phones won’t come with just pure Android.
