Google Maps for Android Gets New Offline Features in India – Get SD Card Support

The search engine giant, Google has recently announced a couple of new features for the Google Maps app for Android in India. Now, Android users in the India will be able to turn on Wi-Fi only option, and, also save maps to their SD card for offline access.

This new SD card data download feature is definitely like a boon to most of the users who are always in short of internal storage on their smartphones. Especially, if you are planning a road trip, this feature along with the wifi-only feature will come in great handy.

Getting to the features – Google Maps for Android users in India can now save maps for offline use to an external SD card. To use the feature, navigate to Menu > Offline areas > Settings > Storage preferences > Device, and then select SD card.

You can also choose to save on mobile data by taking Google Maps completely offline. Once you’ve switched to  “Wi-fi only”, the Google Maps app will work completely offline — no WiFi needed! You will still be able to use other apps and the rest of your phone as you normally would. And you might even save on battery life too. If you need to see what the traffic is like or update your offline maps, you can easily switch back to online mode by changing your setting or finding the nearest WiFi. To use the feature, go to Menu > Settings and select Wi-Fi only.

Along with this, The search engine giant has added more transportation options including integration with GO-JEK and Grab in Southeast Asia and expanding its existing support for Gett, Hailo and MyTaxi to cover Ireland, Poland, Italy, Austria, Russia, and Israel.
