Raspberry Pi has announced the successful sale of 10 million computers, celebrates with official Starter Kit
UK-based Raspberry Pi Foundation has announced the successful sale of ten million their credit card-sized computer. To celebrate the computer’s 10 million marks, the Foundation has created an official Raspberry Pi Starter Kit.
The Pi computer is an affordable credit card sized ARM based PC. The aim of the company is to provide cheap and programmable computers to the younger generation and promote computer science.
It can do many of the things that a desktop PC can do including word-processing, games, playing back High-Definition video or surfing the Internet. The company has launched three generations of the credit card-sized computer.
“We thought our lifetime volumes might amount to ten thousand units – if we were lucky. There was was no expectation that adults would use Raspberry Pi, no expectation of commercial success, and certainly no expectation that four years later we would be manufacturing tens of thousands of units a day in the UK, and exporting Raspberry Pi all over the world. With this in mind, you can imagine how strange it feels to be able to announce that over the last four and a half years we’ve sold a grand total of ten million Raspberry Pis,” the company said in a blog post announcing the feat.
“Thanks to you, we’ve beaten our wildest dreams by three orders of magnitude,” the Pi founder Eben Upton said in a blog post.
Inside the official Pi Starter Kit classy white box you’ll find:
- A Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
- An 8GB NOOBS SD card
- An official case
- An official 2.5A multi-region power supply
- An official 1m HDMI cable
- An optical mouse and a keyboard with high-quality scissor-switch action
- A copy of Adventures in Raspberry Pi Foundation Edition
The Starter Kit is priced at GBP 99 (roughly Rs. 8,770) and will be available in the coming weeks, according to the company.
Raspberry Pi 3, the latest system made by the company features the free Raspbian Operating System. It is also compatible with Windows 10, Ubuntu, Linux and more. It features a 1.2 GHz 64/32 bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and 1GB RAM.
