Google and HTC will once again partner up for two brand-new Nexus devices codenamed M1 and S1, the short forms for codenames Marlin and Sailfish, to launch this year. One of those handsets – HTC Marlin – has just made an appearance on Geekbench, revealing many of its key specifications and hardware.
The Search engine giant officially entered the smartphone race with its own Android handset, the Nexus One, in 2010 and the company partnered with the same manufacturer it chose to release the very first Android smartphone, the T-Mobile G1, in 2008. Last year, Google brought us two Nexus smartphones – LG’s 5x and Huawei’s 6p.
A smartphone believed to be the HTC Nexus M1 Marlin was just spotted at Geekbench, revealing the smartphone’s key specifications. The device is listed as “google marlin” and received a single-core score of 2,084 and the multi-core score of 4,969, making it faster that the iPhone 6s Plus but a little behind the Samsung Galaxy S7 and OnePlus 3.
The Google Nexus M1 Marlin will reportedly include a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) AMOLED display and run Android 7.0 Nougat, and to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor or the rumoured Snapdragon 821/ 823 processors, Adreno 530 GPU (graphics processing unit), bottom speakers, Bluetooth 4.2, and 4GB of RAM. The handset is expected to pack a large 3450mAh battery.
Recent reports claim the Google Nexus M1 Marlin will pack a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front facing camera for video chat and selfies. Google is expected to offer the unlocked smartphone in a 32 GB and 128 GB internal storage configuration, like last year’s Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. The Google Nexus M1 Marlin smartphone is claimed to sport a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner while also come with USB Type-C port, much like the current Nexus smartphones.
An earlier report had suggested that the alleged HTC Sailfish Nexus smartphone will feature a 5-inch full-HD display with 440ppi pixel density, a 64-bit 2.0GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB storage, 12-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, Bluetooth 4.2, the headphone jack on top, and a 2770mAh battery. The handset is also expected to sport rear-mounted fingerprint scanner along with the USB Type-C port and bottom speaker.
