Moto Droid Turbo 2 – world’s first phone with a shatter-proof display
Motorola has finally unveiled its much-anticipated smartphones – the all-new Moto Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 at a media event on Tuesday.
The first Droid-branded phone was released in 2009, a year after the first Android phone hit the market. Motorola and Verizon have teamed up once again for the iconic Droid-line of Android devices.
Both new Droid phones will be available exclusively in the US through Verizon Wireless starting October 29. the carrier will be selling the Moto Droid Turbo 2 at a price point of $624 (Approx Rs. 40,600) and $720 (Approx Rs. 47,000 retail) off contract for the 32GB and 64GB variants respectively.
Motorola has a four-year warranty against cracking and shattering. Moto ShatterShield display technology used in the Turbo 2 is an integrated system consisting of five different layers designed from materials that absorb shock from impact and are guaranteed not to shatter. there’s an exterior protective lens, an interior lens, dual touch layer, a flexible AMOLED display and a rigid aluminum chassis.
Moto Droid Turbo 2 features a 5.4-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 resolution) display, which works out to about 544ppi (pixels per inch); it measures 149.5 x 78 x 9.2 mm and weighs 169 grams.
Moto Droid Turbo 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 oct-core SoC paired with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
There’s a 3,760mAh battery with wireless charging, which in addition to a claimed battery life of 2-days under “mixed use”, also supports Quick Charging. The Droid Turbo 2 supports both the PMA and Qi wireless charging standards. While there’s no fingerprint scanner, the phone does include NFC for making mobile payments through apps like Android Pay.
The Droid Turbo 2 features a 21-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash and Phase Detect Auto-Focus and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a front-facing flash. The Droid Turbo 2 runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, with an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow already planned. Single-SIM capable Droid Turbo 2 supports 4G LTE (Cat 4), 3G, Wi-FI and other standard connectivity options.
