On Wednesday, the Switzerland-based startup, Sirin Labs, has revealed the specs and features of its upcoming Finney device, the world’s first blockchain powered smartphone.

The blockchain is a new technology that powered by a growing list of records called blocks, which are linked together using cryptography. It’s incredibly safe and is the basis behind the world’s most popular cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. The concept of blockchain was first conceptualized by Satoshi Nakamoto back in 2008.

What’s quite interesting about the spec sheet for the blockchain phone is it lists fingerprint sensor under the Display section. This suggests that the handset could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is actually a good call considering that some phone makers are also going this direction with their upcoming releases.

The world’s first blockchain powered smartphone, Finney sports a 6-inch 18:9 display with 402 PPI pixel density, 1500:1 contrast ratio and oil-free coating. The screen also has an ultra-low reflection. The Finney smartphone is running Android 8.1 Oreo alongside the company’s very own Sirin OS.

The Finney smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, which is the most powerful SoC by Qualcomm at present, with an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 630 GPU. Sirin Lab’s Finney handset will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.

The tech firm also noted that the device is compatible with 22 different LTE bands and supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth 5.0. The Finney smartphone features a single rear camera, which has a 12-megapixel sensor and an f/1.8 lens with the focus on low-light imaging, while the front-facing module uses an 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens spanning 85 degrees. The Finney smartphone has a 3,000mAh battery and can reach a 50-percent charge in around 30 minutes.

It has an IP52 certification rating means that there is limited protection from vertically falling water, like rain. The back of the device features Gorilla Glass.

The Finney smartphone will be manufactured by Foxconn. The tech firm expects that at least 100,000 units will be sold this year, and it had already received 25,000 pre-orders as of last month, though concrete availability details are yet to be disclosed by the blockchain startup.

Those pre-ordering the Finney smartphone using the company’s Sirin Labs Tokens (SRN) get a $100 (10%) discount. Only 50 SRN Tokens, currently valued at $25.03 USD, are needed to reserve a Finney smartphone. More details on the availability and distribution of the $999 smartphone will be announced at a later date.
