Xiaomi Mi 5 Announced At MWC 2016 – Much-Awaited Flagship
Xiaomi Mi 5 – Xiaomi has officially announced the Mi 5, its latest flagship device, at events in Beijing and Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 in Barcelona, Spain today.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is a 5.15-inch smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 processor, up to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 3,000mAh battery.
In terms of display the Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch Full HD 1080p display with a 16 LED light backlight technology which gives a brighter picture but that is 17% more power efficient. Sunlight Display technology is upgraded as well and promises contrast adjustment on a per-pixel level. For the first time, Xiaomi has included a fingerprint sensor on one of its devices and a home button.
On the Camera front, the Mi 5 comes with a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 sensor with PDAF autofocus and a pixel-to-pixel isolation technology to stop light bleed from one pixel to another. It also has 4 axis OIS(optical image stabilization). There is also a 4-megapixel front camera with large pixels, for better low light pictures.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 runs Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 interface on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Mi 5 is the first phone that ships with Xiaomi’s Mi Video Calling app, a new cross-platform video chat app that includes live video effects and multitasking modes.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available in three different models, a 32GB model, a 64GB model, and a 128GB model.
The Mi 5 will be available in 4 colors — black, white, gold and rose — the standard color palette these days — and start from 1,999 yuan (about $310 or £220) when it goes on sale next month. The “Pro” version, which comes with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and ceramic back plate instead of glass, will be going for 2,699 yuan (roughly $410 or £300). It will come to China first, followed by India and other markets Xiaomi sells its devices in.
